Information on Anxiety Treatments

You may think that anxiety is a bad thing and must be completely eradicated from us in order to live a stress free life. However, anxiety is actually the key to our survival. It is something which is present in every one of us. It is a part of the human wiring in order to help us with our survival on this planet. Anxiety and fear are two different things since fear is one of the feelings brought on by anxiety. The other feelings brought on by anxiety are worry, a feeling of uneasiness and dread. It is a normal reaction when an individual is placed in front of a new situation. Let me explain how anxiety is essential for our survival. When an individual is placed in front of a life threatening situation, he or she will have to make a choice; either to run away from that certain situation, or to stay and fight it. If there was no anxiety in a human being, the feeling of fear will not come about and a person in a life threatening situation will not react to it. This will only endanger the life of that individual.

There is a part of the brain which has to do with fear called the Amygdala. This part of the brain sends out signals of fear, causing the body to prepare itself for a flight or fight reaction. The brain sends out signals to release adrenaline throughout the body in order to prepare itself for a quick reaction. All this is related to fear. Anxiety comes about when a person thinks he or she is placed in an unavoidable or uncontrollable situation. This can lead to a lot of damaging effects on a person.

When the intensity of anxiety becomes too much, it is known as anxiety disorder. This may be caused due to several reasons and can take place in several forms. Social anxiety and anxiety brought on by excessive stress are the most common forms of anxiety in today's society. When a person is suffering from anxiety disorder, he or she may experience frequent panic attacks when placed in an uneasy situation. Before the onset of a panic attack, a person may feel like he or she is in an inescapable situation. This causes the heart to beat at a really fast rate and make the person feel like he or she is going to die or pass out at any moment. The feeling that comes with a panic attack is something which no body wants to experience in their lives.

Anxiety disorder is not a very easy condition to understand since every individual's disorder varies greatly. The circumstances that lead to ones anxiety disorder cannot be properly identified. This creates great trouble in finding the cause and the perfect solution for it.

In order to find a good anxiety cure you must first identify the causes of the disorder. Using medication to treat anxiety disorder is only a temporary solution and can at times aggravate the condition. A good anxiety cure can only be found in certain therapies and natural herbs such as kava. This will help relax the mind and remove the feeling of anxiety.

A Psychological Brief on Anxiety and Stress

The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM-IV TR) categorizes symptoms pertaining to anxiety into a number of labels. People within the professions of psychiatry, psychology and counseling tend to have mixed feelings about the DSM and the method of labeling people in a grossly oversimplified attempt at understanding an individual’s unique situation, symptoms and challenges. Nevertheless, the DSM is a good place to start in gaining a basic understanding of current knowledge pertaining to any particular mental condition. It should be noted that stress can cause anxiety and anxiety can cause stress. The real differences between the two are contextual and cultural. For example, it’s normal to say that you’re stressed out during the holiday season or when burdened with a heavy work-load at your job. It’s somewhat more of a taboo for a man, for example, doing construction work and talking about how anxious he is feeling about getting the construction job finished on time. Essentially, stress and anxiety are very similar terms, but another difference is that stress tends to refer to the physiological symptoms of long-term, persistent anxiety. For example, under consistently-anxiety-provoking conditions such as a teenager trying to fit in at a new school, the teen may develop an inability to focus, have headaches, nausea or stiff and sore shoulders. These are signs of stress brought on by prolonged exposure to anxiety. Continue reading

Generalized Anxiety Disorder In Children

A few weeks ago I knew I was in for it. I left talk radio on as my ten year old and I were on our way to grandma’s house. It seemed like a harmless enough story about the discovery of water on the moon. I’ve learned to tune away quickly from stories about global climate change, swine flu and war, but this didn’t seem like a dangerous topic. I mean it’s not even about something on this world!

But then one of scientists happened to mention in passing that knowing which planets might have water might be useful since our planet only had a limited time to exist. “Or, in case one of those world destroying comets happens to be spotted heading our way,” the moderator joked. And right then I knew I was in for it. Continue reading

what is Anxiety

Usually when you need information on anxiety, you need it now!! As chances are, you or someone you love is experiencing anxiety, or has recently had an anxiety attack. You usually need that information quickly, and given to you clearly, so you can identify some of the symptoms, as they can be confusing, and at times, very alarming. No two people will experience anxiety in exactly the same way, however if you are aware that these symptoms, although generally uncomfortable, are a\’normal\’ part of the condition, then it is often somewhat, easier to deal with. They can range in number, intensity, and frequency, with each person, experiencing their own unique set of anxiety symptoms.Particularly if you are new to anxiety, and its many symptoms, it can be very confronting, confusing and most of all frightening. The effects of anxiety are often trivialized by those, who have never experienced an attack, it is not uncommon for people to tell you that, although the symptoms are unpleasant they are completely harmless and should be disregarded. However, simply trying to talk oneself out of anxiety is as futile, as trying to talk oneself out of a physical condition, such as a stomach ulcer. Continue reading
